Edible Trees 

Pinyon Pine- The Latin name is Pinus Edulis. Some other names for the Pinyon Pine are The Colorado Pinyon or the Two-Needle Pinyon. The Pinyon Pine lives at an elevation of 5,000-7,000 feet in high deserts. This tree is also found in the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, and some of Mexico. The nuts on the tree are edible and many people collect them. Tea can be made from the needles of the tree. The tea is high in Vitamin C but, should not be taken too often.

Quaking Aspen The Latin name is Populus Tremuloides another name is The Trembling Aspen. This tree grows on foothills and in sub-alpine areas. The tree also grows in valleys and on slopes with good moisture. The tree is edible but, not many people eat it because there isn't much to eat.

Ponderosa Pine-  The Latin name for the Ponderosa is Pinus Ponderosa. This tree lives in the foothills at 7,000-8,000 feet. The pine nuts from this tree are edible. Just like the Pinyon Pine tea can be made from the needles of this tree and the tea is high in Vitamin C. Large quantities of this type of tea can be toxic. Rocky Mountain Juniper-  The Latin name fo the Rocky Mountain Juniper is Juniperus Scopulo. This trees berries are used to flavor meats. The berry helps make the meat more digestible. When the berry is used it is used in small amounts. The tree itself is inedible. To the left is a picture of the berries.
